Sober to Drunk Podcast #1 – The Morning After

morning after

The morning after

At the beginning of the year Mr. Man and I decided to put ourselves on a very strict budget. Student loans are kicking our ass. We also booked another cruise and want to make sure we don’t go in to bankruptcy for the sake of spending 8 days in the Caribbean drinking cocktails.

The budget happened way before I learned that I was being laid off, so after the news that I’d be out of work this spring, we tightened down even more.

As most of you probably know, being on a budget really slows down the social life a lot.  Mr. Man and I like to be social.  We LOVE to do things.  We really, really, really enjoy spending money. Well, since the budget came in to play we’ve been sticking pretty close to home.

In an effort to try to entertain ourselves… I started brainstorming ways we could keep busy and have fun for little or no money. As most of you know, my sole purpose in life seems to be to entertain others…  I’ve only recently realized that I’ve been a self-depreciating showman for the majority of my life, and I’m really happy that I’m finally beginning to accept that and start to develop it. With that mindset, I figured that I would try to get together some kind of a podcast about some topic that I was interested in talking about. This would keep me entertained because I would be able to research and plan the script and it would also involve Mr. Man because he enjoys spending time with me editing and helping with my technical endeavors.

I love listening to podcasts – my favorite being Doodie Calls with Doug Mand.  Who doesn’t love a good poop story?  Seriously, if you say you don’t – you’re lying.

So I had an idea – but I didn’t know what I was going to talk about.  I considered talking about my obsession with cosmetics…  But then I realized I really have no merit to talk about cosmetics because

1.  I’m not a professional makeup artist
2.  I just started getting in to cosmetics early last year
3.  I really have no idea what I’m talking about when it comes to makeup – I just like pretty things and fancy products

Then I considered having a podcast about one of my other passions in life…. A things cats.

Nobody wants that.  Nobody.

The aftermath

So I quickly realized that a stand alone podcast featuring Amy & only Amy probably wasn’t the best idea.  I decided I wanted to get some of my like-minded friends involved in creating something with me…  But what do me and a wide array of all of my friends have in common?  It was hard to pin a topic down.  Then it dawned on me!  What do all 30-somethings like doing?  Boozing it up! Thus the idea for the Sober to Drunk Podcast was born.  The thought was to get together a guest list of some of my friends that I thought would be witty and unafraid to talk about topics that I chose with candor in a setting with other people that they may not know very well.  I’d curate a topic list, keep it secret until the night of the podcast, invite folks over and buy them pizza and some beers and we would record.

The result was a 3+ hour talk-fest of topics ranging from the depreciation of music to our most feared ways to die to recalling dreams we had which explored our most inner fears.  There were many F-Bombs dropped and even more inappropriate racial and offensive topics (looking at you Jay).

Today Mr. Man and I begin editing and we hope to make this a regular occurrence. I had a great time, drank far too much and eventually just stood up and excused myself from the party so the world would stop spinning.

Thank you to everyone who participated, and keep track of Lipstick & Cat Fur for the final release of the completely edited podcast.  It’s sure to….  uh…  probably disappoint!  🙂

  1. Oh, my, gawd, woman! What is the name of this font you use? It is making love to my spherical brain cameras! I must type every document, text and email in nothing but this font for all the rest of my days. Tahoma can suck it!

So much website! How big fun! I want to go to there. I love to read the things you write.
